Career Week is a new iniative, unique to Deakin University, that brings together the skills and expertise of employers, academics and the Careers and Employment service to prepare students for their professional careers. Each faculty has its own Career Week which provides tailored careers and labour market information to students in each school via an on-line Careers Expo. The Career Week websites include the following features:

  • Employer Profiles
  • Professional Association Profiles
  • Industry Profiles
  • Articles on careers in relevant industries
  • Handouts (resumes, applications, interviews, assessment centres etc)
  • Job seeking strategies relevant to each industry
  • Useful websites
  • Events calendar
  • Testimonials from recent graduates - "What's it like out there?"
  • Sections for first year, middle years, final years and postgraduate students
  • Section for International students

Various on-campus activities were also run during each Career Week, including inviting employers as guest lecturers, workshops and career panels across Deakin University's four campuses.

Deakin University alumni responded enthusiastically to requests for profiles with over 80 profiles posted across the four websites. These profiles have provided our students with a great insight into the depth and breadth of the career paths our graduates have pursued since completing their studies at Deakin University.

Deakin University students have responded positively to the Career Week websites, with a total of over 18,000 hits. Whilst each Career Week is of limited duration, the Career Week websites will remain live for students and staff to access freely throughout the year. Careers and Employment will be ensuring that the content on these sites is updated regularly. Where possible, new articles will be sought on relevant topics from employers, graduates and industry associations. Careers and Employment will also be liaising with faculty staff to source relevant topics, and industry contacts.

We encourage employers, graduates, academics and industry associations to submit articles and profiles for the Career Week websites. For employers and professional associations it is a great way to raise your profile on campus. The websites give you the chance to promote your organisation in new ways, and to a large number of students.

Employer profiles could include: the benefits of working for your organisation; the programs you offer (graduate, vacation, internships, work placements etc); the key aspects that differentiate you from other organisations within your industry and all with the aim of convincing Deakin University students that your company is their employer of choice.

Professional Association profile could include: an overview of your organisation; the student membership benefits; promotion of events that are suitable for students plus anything extra you would like to market to our students.
