Deakin University is one of three universities in Australia now offering students the opportunity to undertake The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. The Award is an international 'leadership in action' program for young people between 16-25 years of age. The program was first introduced in the United Kingdom in 1956 and since then the program has developed and grown, and now reaches young people in over 120 countries.
The Award concept is an individual challenge designed to encourage young people to develop into mature, active citizens who will positively contribute towards society. It presents a balanced, non-competitive and enjoyable program of voluntary activities, which encourage personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility and service to the community.
Deakin aims to engage students in the program, encourage, inspire and guide them
