Emergencies

Medical emergency

When a medical emergency arises on campus and an ambulance is required, call 0, then 000 or 112 (some mobile networks) and ask for the ambulance service.

Answer all questions asked by the ambulance operator and do not hang up until requested to do so.

Then call Deakin security on 222 (internal DUX phone) and contact the nearest first aider.
Further information is available from Deakin emergency management guidelines.

Restroom (sickbay)

A restroom is available for student and staff use on the Warrnambool, Waurn Ponds, Waterfront and Burwood campuses. Students registered with the DRC (Disability Resource Centre) are welcome to use the facilities unless the room is required for a medical emergency.

Please contact Health Service staff for further details.

After Hours

Should you require urgent medical attention outside of normal Health Service opening hours please contact your local campus Student Life (Health Service) reception for information specific to each campus. Some medical clinics open into the early hours of the evening and limited hours on weekends.

See M for medical practitioners in the local telephone directory for further information.

The Australian hospital system consists of both public and private hospitals. 24 hour accident and emergency treatment is available from public and some private hospitals. City hospitals can be located under H for hospitals in the telephone directory or from the Department of Human Services Victoria. Country hospitals can also be located under H for hospitals in the local telephone directory or from the Department of Human Services Victoria.
