Residences

Deakin University Residences

Residences take pride in being a 'living and learning' community, with a strong sense of a resident's personal and academic support - for their transition and success through the University.

Residences have performed longitudinal research for residents' retention and academic success rates and shown these to be generally higher compared with off-campus students.

This is achieved by:

  • Providing a safe and supportive living environment
  • Providing relevant, diverse and effective Residential Support programs, activities and opportunities
  • Encouraging academic, personal, social and cultural participation and development
  • Providing opportunities for leadership, independence, responsibility and community service
  • Promoting the development of learning skills and an appreciation of the value of knowledge
  • Recognising and encouraging an acceptance of equity and diversity within the student population
  • Compliance with the Strategic Plan of the University and Division of Student Life - Work Plan
  • Promotion and service delivery through the residential annual service unit plan

We also:

  • recognise that students are the primary stakeholders of our service
  • promise friendly, courteous and efficient service
  • embrace best practice principles
  • conduct our business with honesty and integrity
  • value the contribution of all staff
  • strive to achieve productive and collaborative relationships across the Division Student Life and wider University
  • seek collaboration and networking opportunities with other university residential services and memberships of the national bodies of Australasian Association of College and University Housing Offivers (AACUHO) and University Colleges Australia (UCA)

Deakin University acknowledges the traditional land owners of present campus sites.
