The Deakin University Insurance Office arranges a variety of insurance policies to safeguard the insurable interests of Deakin University, its staff, students and relevant third parties. The insurance program is renewed annually on 1 November and provides insurance cover for students as follows:
International Travel Insurance
The Deakin University Travel Insurance Policy provides cover for medical and additional expenses as a result of injury or illness, emergency travel assistance, loss of baggage, loss of personal effects, personal liability, loss of deposits and additional travel expenses whilst on approved international study related travel.
Once Students have registered for travel insurance, they are covered for up to 12 months including a maximum of 10 days leisure travel. Students considering international travel need to familiarise themselves with the details of the insurance cover and the procedures to register for this cover at the International Travel Insurance for Students page.
The Deakin University Personal Accident Insurance Policy provides cover for Students, including postgraduate Students, that suffer an injury whilst engaged in all activities, field assignments, practical placements and community placements organised by, approved by, or under the control of Deakin University. Insurance for Students on Placements / Work Experience
The Deakin University insurance program provides insurance cover for Students during medical placement, community placement, practical placement, enterprise experience and work experience approved by Deakin University. Students are deemed to be enrolled Students at Deakin University until 31 March in
the year following their last current enrolment. A Student completing course studies in the current year is therefore not covered by the Deakin University insurance policies if the Student commences placement / work experience after 31 March of the following year.
Approval for placements / work experience need to be obtained from the course coordinator / nominated person within the School / Faculty well in advance of the starting date of the placement.
Insurance cover is provided under the following policies: General and Products Liability (including liability to Host Employers), Professional Indemnity, Professional Indemnity Medical Malpractice, Personal Accident and International Travel. Insurance for Students as Voluntary Workers
The Deakin University insurance program provides insurance cover for voluntary workers whilst engaged, without payment, in voluntary work approved by Deakin University.
Insurance cover is provided under the following policies: General and Products Liability, Professional Indemnity, Professional Indemnity Medical Malpractice, Personal Accident and International Travel.
