Useful Information and Resources

Getting started at Deakin - Orientation

Visit the Get started website to find out all you need to know about starting at Deakin. If you need to find accommodation, Deakin has housing officers wanting to assist you.

Important Dates

If you are studying at one of our campuses or affiliated sites, you need to set up your timetable for classes and seminars through STAR on StudentConnect.

Important dates - Note down any important dates relevant for you or your course, including the last day to vary your units, census dates, fee due dates and exam dates for the end of trimester.

Email

Your username is also your Deakin email address.  You should check this email address a few times a week.  If you have another email account you prefer to use, you can redirect/forward your Deakin email to another account.

Financial assistance

You can generate an invoice in StudentConnect (see the link under the Fees and Payment heading). Take note of the due date for any fees. If you haven't paid your fees by the due date, you may lose your place.

Transport, travel concessions and parking

Once you have enrolled, you can access your Travel Concession form through StudentConnect. If you're eligible, the pre-populated form will be sent to your Deakin email address. It must be printed in colour when lodging your application.

Find out more about getting to Deakin. You are able to purchase parking permits from Student Central.

Books

The Deakin University Student Association (DUSA) runs bookshops at each of our campus locations. You can check the textbook requirements for each unit on the bookshop's Student Booklist. You may also have received a list of items you'll need (e.g. lab coats).

Work Integrated Learning

Work Integrated Learning (WIL) enables you to incorporate a full or part time industry work placement as part of your degree and it’ll count as course credit. Not only will it prepare you for employment once you graduate but you’ll get first-hand industry insights and develop your professional network. WIL experiences are a key advantage on your resume.

Work integrated learning can be included in form of internships, community volunteering or workplace opportunities – within Australia or overseas – and gain credit towards your degree.  To find out more about work integrated learning, what it is and what opportunities are available to you, click through to the Work Integrated Learning page.
