Higher degrees by research are awarded on satisfactory completion of supervised but independent research which is described in a thesis.

Examination outcomes

Doctor of Philosophy and Masters degrees

The PhD and Masters degree outcomes are detailed below.

Outcome 
1that the degree be awarded
2.1that the degree be awarded provided that the textual errors and other minor matters identified in the examiners' reports are corrected to the satisfaction of the Head of School or Nominee
2.2that the degree be awarded provided that the matters identified in the examiners' reports are addressed to the satisfaction of the Head of School or Nominee
3that the degree not be awarded but the candidate be permitted to revise the thesis in response to the examiners' reports and present it for re-examination by the date specified

that the degree not be awarded but that the appropriate degree of Master be awarded (NOT APPLICABLE TO MASTERS DEGREES)
that the degree not be awarded but the appropriate degree of Master be awarded provided that the textual errors identified in the examiners' reports are corrected to the satisfaction of the Head of School or Nominee (NOT APPLICABLE TO MASTERS DEGREES)
5that the degree not be awarded

Doctor of Psychology

The Doctor of Psychology (DPsych) degree has a different set of outcomes to those above as a Masters degree is not applicable.

Outcome 
1that the degree of Doctor of Psychology be awarded subject to satisfactory completion of the other components of the program
2.1that the degree of Doctor of Psychology be awarded subject to satisfactory completion of the other components of the program, provided that the textual errors and other minor matters identified in the examiners' reports are corrected to the satisfaction of the Head of School or Nominee
2.2that the degree of Doctor of Psychology be awarded subject to satisfactory completion of the other components of the program, provided that the matters identified in the examiners' reports are addressed to the satisfaction of the Head of School or Nominee
3that the degree of Doctor of Psychology not be awarded but the candidate be permitted to revise the major investigative project report in response to the examiners' reports and present it for re-examination by the date specified
