HDR Examinations - FAQs for examiners

What is an ABN?

Australian Business Numbers (ABNs) are issued by the Australian Taxation Office. An ABN is a single identifier for all business dealings with the tax office and for dealings with other government departments and agencies.

To be entitled to an ABN you must be carrying on an enterprise in Australia. An enterprise, among other things, is an activity or series of activities done in the form of a business.

Some examiners based in Australia have an ABN but it is not essential to have one to act as an examiner.

The Australian Taxation Office provides further information on ABNs.
