Preparing your Candidature Agreement
A Candidature Agreement is an important document which is prepared during the first month of candidature. It is an agreement between the student and the University that sets out the expectations of all parties (student, supervisor and University) and includes:
- the topic of research
- type of examination
- supervision arrangements
- coursework unit
- FoR/SEO classification codes
- individual learning plan
As part of your candidature agreement you are expected to set up an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). This is a mechanism for planning and recording all of the skills and knowledge you will acquire during your study. This will be your first opportunity to interact with the ILP and you are encouraged to continue reviewing it throughout your candidature.
Completing the Agreement is compulsory for Deakin research degree students.
Online Candidature Agreements
Students will receive an email from Deakin Research to start the Agreement shortly after commencing candidature. It cannot be done before then.
The Candidature Agreement provides a checklist to ensure that certain requirements pertaining to the research project have been discussed and understood by all students. It is important that students complete the agreement in discussion with their supervisors.
