What is a student ambassador?
Deakin University student ambassadors are current Deakin students who are employed casually by the Marketing Division, whose principal role is to support the Student Recruitment team at recruitment events and activities, specifically to assist with the recruitment of prospective undergraduate students.
Importance of the role
As a Deakin student ambassador, you are the face of Deakin University and a key influence for prospective student's decision to study at Deakin.
You will provide information and advice from a student-centred viewpoint which helps to break down barriers and increase awareness of higher education in general and Deakin University in particular.
What type of activities are student ambassadors involved in?
You will be involved in a wide variety of activities throughout the recruitment year and across a variety of audiences including school leavers, careers advisers, parents and non-school leavers including TAFE students and mature age students.
As a Deakin student ambassador, you may have the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the following areas:
- attending university events and expos both within metro Melbourne and regional Victoria
- Campus tours
- customer service and school liaison
- public speaking
- mentoring/ training future student ambassadors
- administrative office work
- writing newsletters.

There are many benefits to being a Deakin student ambassador. As a vital link in the recruitment process, you become a valued member of the Undergraduate Recruitment team and will thrive in the team's many achievements.
Being a Deakin student ambassador is also a lot of fun and provides you with great work experience that will help you to develop a range of transferable skills and enhance your CV.
The work involved is well paid and flexible, so that you can earn and learn without interfering in your studies.

Deakin University encourages all students to apply, especially those that are active in university life. Ambition, excellent communication skills and a willingness to help out and be involved are essential to be a Student Ambassador.
We recruit for Student Ambassadors at the beginning of each year and interviews and training commence late March and early April.
