Careers in property and real estate are vast. Opportunities exist in property development and valuation, through to investment portfolios and leasing. Our courses are renowned for their global perspective, industry relevance and high graduate employability.

Get work-ready

The property industry is one of the world’s largest employment areas. Deakin’s unique property and real estate courses lead to careers with long-term employment and great salaries. With strong industry links and international demand for graduates, property and real estate studies at Deakin focus on investment, property development, property valuation, market analysis and property economics, with popular specialisations in sustainability or business disciplines.

Undergraduate

Undergraduate (your first degree)

An undergraduate degree is generally completed between two to four years, depending on the pattern of study and any recognition of prior learning you may have. Associate degrees, bachelor and bachelor with honours are all undergraduate degrees.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate (further study)

A postgraduate qualification can be undertaken by students who have already completed an undergraduate degree or possess significant, demonstrable work experience. Postgraduate courses include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, masters and PhDs, as well as specialist programs for industry professionals.

Career opportunities

Long-term job prospects in the property field nationally and globally are strong, with good remuneration. This is linked to factors including demand for ongoing property development, the need for valuing investment assets and the presence of property in many superannuation portfolios. Graduates can find employment in roles such as:

    • asset manager
    • facilities manager
    • land economist
    • owners corporation manager
    • portfolio manager
    • property adviser
    • property developer
    • property valuer.

Professional recognition

Deakin's unique three-year Bachelor of Property and Real Estate has the highest level of accreditation for any property course by Australian Property Institute (API) for Certified Practising Valuer (CPV) status and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

For me, the degree has been a real bonus and has already opened a lot of doors and opportunities. I think employers appreciate the hard work that goes into a degree, and I know it has been a key factor in accelerating both my learning and my career.

  • DBS has been awarded EQUIS accreditation through the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). This global best-practice recognition places Deakin Business School in the top 1 per cent of business schools worldwide.
