International Academic Admission Requirements

Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diplomas

Applicants applying for entry into a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma course must have:

  • an approved three-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from an approved university or other educational institution; or
  • equivalent qualifications gained by examination or relevant professional or industrial expedience.

Masters degree by coursework

Applicants applying for entry must have completed at least a three-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, of an acceptable standard from an approved university or other educational institution.

Masters degree by research

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with honours (second class and above) from a recognised tertiary institution in an appropriate discipline for which the University can provide the required supervisory expertise.

Doctoral programs

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with honours (second class and above) or a master's degree by research from a recognised tertiary institution in an appropriate discipline for which the University can provide the required supervisory expertise.

  1. To calculate A-level points, A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, d = 2, E = 1.
    Please note, Faculty of:
    Arts and Education
    courses A316, A359, E330 and E377 are UK and HK A-level 6 on all campuses.
    Business and Law
    course M340 is UK and HK A-level 6 on all campuses and M312 is UK and HK A-level 8 on all campuses.
    Health
    courses H330 (S) and H326 (S, W) are UK and HK A-level 5.
    Science, Engineering and Built Environment
    course S399 (W) is UK and HK A-Level 5. 
  2. Sri Lanka A-level grades are indicative only. A combination of higher and lower grades may be considered.
  3. Malaysia STPM is to be reviewed.
  4. MUFY 60% required for English except for Arts and Law which require 70%.
  5. UNSW Foundation/Uniprep
  6. Successful completion of the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma.
  7. Please note, Faculty of:
    Arts and Education
    courses A316, A325 are IELTS 6.5/6 and E330, E359 and E377 are IELTS 7/7.5.
    Business and Law
    course M312 is IELTS 7/7.
    Health
    courses H330, H326 and H311 are IELTS 7/7.

Other countries:

  • China: successful completion of the Chinese National College Entrance Examination (Gao Kao) with an overall score of 75% of total marks, in either Humanities or Science stream.
  • Canada Ontario OSSD: a minimum of six Grade 12 credits (assessed individually).
  • Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam: after your Senior Secondary School Certificate/Diploma, you may complete a Diploma program at MIBT or at one of Deakin's TAFE partners. Completion of such a program provides a one-year pathway to second year at Deakin. Alternatively, you may complete your Senior Secondary School Certificate/Diploma plus one year of approved tertiary study to be eligible for direct admission.
  • Malaysia UEC: For most courses, UEC requirement is: Not more than 21 points in the best five subjects where: A1=1, A2=2, B3=3, B4=4, C5=5, C6=6, D7=7, E8=8, F9=9. Some courses with higher entry requirements will be assessed on case by case basis.
  • Australia Foundation programs will be assessed individually.
  • New Zealand NCE4. Achievement of New Zealand University Entrance certification, and a minimum of 80 credits, including at least 60 credits at level 3 or higher on the NZ qualifications framework, and at least 8 credits at level 2 or higher in English (4 must be in writing and 4 be in reading).
