International Academic Admission Requirements

Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diplomas

Applicants applying for entry into a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma course must have:

  • an approved three-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, from an approved university or other educational institution; or
  • equivalent qualifications gained by examination or relevant professional or industrial expedience.

Masters degree by coursework

Applicants applying for entry must have completed at least a three-year undergraduate degree, or equivalent, of an acceptable standard from an approved university or other educational institution.

Masters degree by research

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with honours (second class and above) from a recognised tertiary institution in an appropriate discipline for which the University can provide the required supervisory expertise.

Doctoral programs

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with honours (second class and above) or a master's degree by research from a recognised tertiary institution in an appropriate discipline for which the University can provide the required supervisory expertise.

The entry requirements in the tables below are for courses at the Melbourne Burwood Campus and cloud learning (online) courses. For courses at other Deakin campuses, lower admission requirements may apply.

  1. To calculate A-level points, A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, d = 2, E = 1. Minimum three A-Levels.
  2. A total of 18 is required with no less than 3 required for all core subjects. These requirements are currently under review, and subject to change.
  3. To calculate Sri Lankan A level points A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, d = 2, E = 1. Minimum of three A level subjects must be completed.
  4. Malaysia STPM GPA.
  5. Successful completion of the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma.

Other countries:

  • China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam: after your Senior Secondary School Certificate/Diploma, you may complete foundation studies and/or a Diploma program at Deakin College or at one of Deakin's TAFE partners. Alternatively, you may complete your Senior Secondary School Certificate/Diploma plus one year of approved tertiary study to be eligible for direct admission.
  • Canada Ontario OSSD: a minimum of six Grade 12 credits (assessed individually).
  • Malaysia UEC: For most courses, UEC requirement is: Not more than 21 points in the best five subjects where: A1=1, A2=2, B3=3, B4=4, C5=5, C6=6, D7=7, E8=8, F9=9. Some courses with higher entry requirements will be assessed on case by case basis.
  • New Zealand NCE4. Achievement of New Zealand University Entrance certification, and a minimum of 80 credits, including at least 60 credits at level 3 or higher on the NZ qualifications framework, and at least 8 credits at level 2 or higher in English (4 must be in writing and 4 be in reading required).

If your academic achievements and country of origin are not mentioned here, it does not necessarily mean that Deakin cannot assess your application. Our admissions team can take your academic record and other achievements, including work place experience into consideration.
