Credit for Prior Learning

Deakin recognises your previous studies and work experience and can provide Credit for Prior Learning towards your chosen Deakin course.

Pathways

If you don't quite meet the admission requirements for Deakin, it doesn't mean you have to miss out.

Deakin has two on-campus pathways that can help you apply for an award course. You would also gain access to university campus facilities and services, which is a unique feature of these pathways. Both of the below pathways are offered in two locations - Melbourne and Geelong:

Other pathways are also available to students who do not meet the academic entry requirements for a Deakin course:

Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI)

You will automatically be eligible for placement at DUELI if you meet Deakin University's academic entrance criteria, but do not meet the English language requirements.

Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) prepares students for entry to degree-level study at Deakin University, and other tertiary institutions in Australia. DUELI also offers English language programs to students who wish to develop English skills for personal and professional development.

Deakin College

Deakin College offers an excellent pathway to Deakin for students who do not meet the entry requirements for Deakin University's courses or who need to bridge the gap between previous study and university.

Deakin College diplomas are equivalent to the first year of the Deakin University undergraduate degree. On satisfactory completion of a Deakin College diploma and subject to meeting University academic entrance criteria, Deakin College graduates are guaranteed entry to second year at Deakin University.

Deakin College advantages are:

  • study on a University campus
  • fast-track option, with three semesters per year
  • intakes in March/June/October
  • small group teaching and individual attention
  • academic and welfare support services.

TAFE pathways

Deakin and its Technical and Further Education (TAFE) partners collaborate to offer pathways via Certificate IV, diploma, advanced diploma and associate degree qualifications. TAFE pathways may provide students with Credit for Prior Learning into specific Deakin degrees if admission requirements are met.

  • Box Hill Institute of TAFE (Melbourne Burwood Campus)
  • The Gordon (Geelong Waterfront Campus)
