Deakin announces Royals Scholarships

The Deakin University Rajasthan Royals Vice Chancellors Scholarships have been awarded.

Indian cricketing icon, Rahul Dravid has awarded two Deakin University Rajasthan Royals scholarships to students, Noorjot Kaur Khubber and Tanmay Bohra.

Both students were selected from a pool of candidates based on academic merit and achievements in leadership and sport. The scholarships provide a 50 per cent waiver of the student's course fee at Deakin.

Deakin Vice-chancellor and President Professor Jane der Hollander said, "we are delighted to offer these scholarships to two of India's brightest minds and future leaders."

"Back in 1893, Alfred Deakin – the Australian Prime Minister for whom the university is named – predicted that students from Australia and India would travel across their international borders and form lasting intellectual partnerships."

Rajasthan Royal Chief Executive Officer Raghu Iyer says the scholarship is a great opportunity. "We are excited about our association with Deakin University and trust the partnership will enable us to promote Sports Education in India while serving as a worthy case for research and learning. We thank Deakin for associating with us and look forward to helping create ever-growing value in the years to come."

The scholarship ceremony was a part of a gala event to celebrate the partnership between Deakin University, Australia and the Rajasthan Royals at New Delhi.

Deakin University, Australia and Rajasthan Royals signed an agreement on 3 March 2014. Deakin University, Australia is the Official Sports Education Partner to Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2014.

Deakin was the first University in Australia to offer integrated business degrees in sport management. It is currently ranked 7th in the world by Sport Business International, and is the only Australian program to make the top 25.
