DUELI Fest showcasing the best of student life
DUELI Fest has developed as a way to provide students the opportunities to engage with MIBT and Deakin staff and assist students with a smoother transition into their higher qualifications from DUELI. The Fest is normally held once every intake, with nine intakes per year.
DUELI Student Adviser Krystal Barr says the day is designed as a way of engaging and interacting with students. 'Students who are already connected with DUSA student clubs and the support services in the wider Deakin community feel less stress when transitioning to the next provider as they know how and where to access support.'
Since the first DUELI Fest was held in February this year, the event has gone from strength to strength, Krystal says.
'Every DUELI Fest has a different theme. In the first intake we had Indigenous Australian performers. In the second one we had a flash mob and African drummer. In the future we will be celebrating various multicultural festivals and world events that correspond with the DUELI Fest dates, with the next DUELI Fest in July celebrating the World Cup.'
The World Cup theme will feature a large inflatable soccer game, a DJ, free photo booth and free lunch for students. The event attracts a range of university and community organisations such as DUSA, a range of DUSA Clubs (Deakin Dance Club, Deakin Nursing Society, Deakin International Student Club (DISC), and Deakin Spanish Club), Toastmasters, MIBT, YMCA and BUPA.
'DUELI Fest aims to incorporate and empower students to share their culture and engage with the community so they not only attend as guests but are actively involved in the Festival, interacting with people they would not normally do so with and seeking opportunities outside their normal environment.'
