Group internship study tour in Indonesia a great success

Eleven Deakin students participated in the Bachelor of International Studies Indonesia Tour in 2013.

The 2013 Bachelor of International Studies Indonesia Tour was held from 10 to 23 November. The program saw students learn about Indonesian history, culture and politics, as well as the basics of Indonesian language. Students were hosted by local families and had the opportunity to gain a true insight into the lives of Indonesian people.

One of the students participating in the program said the trip helped him '...change and open up narrow and poorly based notions of the locals, while improving my Indonesian language skills and general knowledge about the country and how to negotiate it'. Another students added 'the tour gave me a better understanding of the disciplines I am studying. Seeing the politics unfold in reality was insightful and helped me comprehend how history impacts on real politics.'

Students also had the opportunity to visit Borobudur, the ninth century Mahayana Buddhist Temple in Magelang, and the accounting firm BDO Indonesia. The program has been very successful over the years and will be run again in June and July this year. The Faculty of Arts and Education organises study tours every year in many countries across the world.
