Deakin University Student Association (DUSA) Scholarships

Succeeding in your study and getting involved in student life are two of the most important parts of University. Some students do not have this opportunity due to economic, social or geographic disadvantage. This DUSA scholarship can help give students greater opportunity, allowing them to concentrate on their studies and make the most of the opportunities University presents.

What are the benefits for you?

This scholarship will be paid in vouchers which can be used to pay for:

  • All prescribed text books (for enrolled units) for the academic year supplied free of charge through a DUSA Bookstore
  • iPad, tablet or laptop
  • $500 DUSA voucher which can be used at DUSA bookshops or to pay for trips, tours, events or short courses offered by DUSA
  • $100 Deakin Campus Services spend which can be used for services such as printing, photocopying, binding or food purchases
  • DUSA Gold membership 2016
  • $250 Travel Assistance Package (annual general parking permit/public transport/MYKI)
  • 100% funded participation at one of the following:
    • Southern University Games
    • Australian University Games
    • Snow Games (this includes registration, accommodation, travel to and from games and team meals).
Duration One academic year

Eligibility criteria

All conditions must be met

  • Be an Australian citizen or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
  • be a currently enrolled (continuing) student, enrolled full time in an undergraduate bachelor degree in a Commonwealth supported place
  • be able to demonstrate economic, social or geographical disadvantage
  • have a minimum Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 65.
Number available

A total of six scholarships will be offered, awarded across all campuses to continuing students. The allocation will consist of:

  • Two at the Burwood Campus
  • One at the Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus 
  • One at the Geelong Waterfront Campus
  • One at the Warrnambool Campus 
  • One to a Cloud enrolled student.
Selection criteria

Your application will be assessed and ranked based on the information your provide in your application including:

  • personal - details of living arrangements and employment (must include annual income).
  • financial - details of assets and savings (bank accounts etc.).     
  • information regarding any hardship you face
  • how the scholarship will benefit you.
Special conditionsIf you are successful you will be required to provide a written statement in Trimester 2 2016 highlighting the impact receiving this support has had on you personally and on your studies during the year for a case study and/or reporting purposes.
Opening and closing datesApplications for Trimester 1 2016 open 7 October 2015 and close 3 February 2016 at 5pm.

Supporting documentation

As part of the application process you will also be required to provide supporting documentation. You must email your supporting documents with your applicant ID number in the subject line to no later than the closing date of the scholarship.

The supporting documentation required includes:

  • evidence of any hardship you are experiencing 
  • details of your living arrangements and employment (must include your annual income) 
  • details of assets and savings (bank accounts etc.)
