The Alfred Deakin Research Institute (ADRI) is offering a new Alfred Deakin 'Worldly Ideas' PhD scholarship relating to the broad research field of 'Egalitarianism in Australia and settler societies'. The Alfred Deakin 'Worldly Ideas' PhD scholarship recalls the power of Alfred Deakin's ideas for Australia and Australian politics, and this offer links to the Institute's involvement in an international project on egalitarianism in comparative contexts.

The project will be supervised by Prof David Lowe and will be based at the Geelong Waterfront Campus.

  • A stipend of $25,392 per annum tax exempt

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship applicants should be enrolling full-time and possess the following:

  • Applicants must meet Deakin's PhD entry requirements, be enrolling full-time and must hold an Honours degree (First Class) or a Master's degree in a related field with a substantial research component (or equivalent). Please refer to the entry pathways to higher degrees by research for further information.
  • Applications are open to Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents or international applicants.
  • A background in humanities or the social sciences, in particular politics, history, anthropology and sociology is desirable.
