For sustained leadership in approaches and scholarship that support the successful transition of non-traditional students into university.
Dr Neil Burdess established and developed the highly successful unit Introduction to University Study, associated, in an independent study, with success at university among first-generation students. He has also published four books for students, on generic study skills and statistical skills, which have sold widely and received very favourable reviews. Chapters from one book have featured in two Australian universities' student transition handbooks. Consistently high student evaluations, peer recognition and multiple institutional teaching awards are further evidence of his sustained significant contribution to university learning and teaching.
