1. What should I take with me to class?

2. What do I do if I suspect collusion between students submitting assignments?

A. speak with your Unit Chair/supervisor first
A. avoid accusing students directly

3. Do I have to be available for face to face consultations  with students?

A. ask your supervisor, as students do look for their tutor outside class time

4. What is the best way for students to contact me?

A. your Deakin email address

5. Who do I contact if I have a problem with ...?

A. generally your supervisor would be the first person to speak with

6. What are the key dates for this trimester?

A. check your Unit Guide(s) for assessment due dates and teaching weeks

7. What is the DVD Software Essentials ?

8. What do I do if I don't get paid?

9. How do I get access to my unit(s) DSO (Deakin Studies Online) site?

10. How do I get my email account set up with ITSD?

A.  Once your staff ID number has been passed from Human Resources Services Division (HRSD) to ITSD your username can be created. A current staff member must access the  Staff Account Creation  page to begin the process for you.

11. What equipment can I expect in most classrooms?

A.  in standard teaching spaces - overhead projector, screen, whiteboard, TV, Video/ DVD

12. What do I do if a student asks for an extension?

A. advise that he/she contact the lecturer/Unit chair

13. What do I do next if I assess an assignment as a 'Fail'?

A. Give the details to your supervisor/Unit Chair as a second mark will be necessary

14. What is the grading system used at Deakin?

A. HD (80+%); D (70-79%); C (60-69%); P (50-59%); N (50% or less)

16. What is the faculty policy on 'turn-around' times for marking?

17. What are my legal responsibilities?

A. “All persons must take reasonable care to see that others are not put at a foreseeable risk of injury, loss or damage by the way in which they conduct themselves. This duty of care is owed to all persons who you may reasonably foresee may be affected by what you do.” (The Guide, 2008).

18. What materials do I need from my supervisor before classes commence?

A. some of: textbook(s), Unit Guide, Study Guide, Readings, manual(s), blank overhead transparencies, transparency pens, whiteboard pens

19. Where can I park?

A. there are car parks at all campuses
A. between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, you will need a parking permit to park a vehicle at any of Deakin’s campuses

31. How do I submit my pay claim (timesheet)?

A. check with your supervisor/unit chair, as different Schools have different processes
A. make sure you get the timesheet signed by your supervisor/unit chair and submit before the payroll cut-off date

32. What do I do if I am unwell and can't perform my duties?

A. contact your supervisor or school administrative staff
A. if you have access to DSO, post an announcement to students if you are cancelling your class.
