Induction and orientation: Facilities and equipment

Office

Ask your supervisor about you using an office set aside for casual academic staff (sessional office). Whilst on campus, you should be given access to an office, desk, computer, printer, telephone.

Mailbox

Check with your supervisor and/or School administrative staff about gaining access to a personal pigeon hole or mailbox in one of the School’s staffrooms.

Photocopier

You should be given access to a photocopier to support your teaching duties. Ask your supervisor about the photocopier location(s) and any passwords necessary to gain access.

NB: you need to become familiar with copyright guidelines if intending to photocopy materials for use in teaching and learning.

Library

Once you have your staff ID card, you are able to use Deakin’s Library facilities.

Software Essentials

Software Essentials is a DVD based resource for all Deakin students and staff. It contains:

• accessibility software
• course specific software

Class Timetables

If you need to find out which classrooms (teaching spaces) you will be teaching in, then you can access all details via: http://www.deakin.edu.au/services/timetables/index.php

You can access details about:

• room locations
• all scheduled classes by campus, semester and Faculty
• furniture within any room
• audiovisual facilities with any room
• all classes timetabled in any individual room during semester.

You may also check on what equipment is available in each teaching space by going to: http://www.deakin.edu.au/its/rooms

Deakin’s Facilities Management Services Division conducts random audits of room usage during trimester. If you are timetabled in a certain room during trimester, and you are not present when the room audit occurs, your School will receive a significant fine.

If for any reason you are unable to be in your timetabled room, inform your supervisor.

Computer labs

There are general access and bookable computer laboratories on each campus. You may use these when they are not timetabled for classes. More information is available at the ITSD website at:
