Induction and orientation: Getting paid

How you are paid

Deakin pays you by the fortnight, for work completed in the previous 2 weeks.

Time Sheets

You will need to complete a ‘Time Sheet’ before you are paid for your work

Make sure that you have it signed by your supervisor. Aim to submit it so your supervisor and School administrative staff receive it 2 days before the next pay ‘cut off date’ (see Deakin Pay Calendar at http://www.deakin.edu.au/hr/calendar/index.php .

**Some Schools allow online submission of time sheets, but others operate on hard copies only. Make sure you clarify your School’s procedure with your supervisor. The relevant forms can be accessed at: https://staff.deakin.edu.au/employment/casuals.php

Keep a copy of every time sheet you submit. Non-payment of casual academic staff can and does happen. In the first instance, if this happens to you, contact your supervisor and School administrative staff before contacting Human Resources.

Do not assume you will be paid in the next pay! Follow it up immediately.

Pay Rates

Current pay rates for the different casual academic classifications are periodically updated.

Pay Slip

You will receive a fortnightly pay slip. Check it carefully and immediately follow up any discrepancies with your supervisor /School administrative staff

Payment

Payment is by electronic funds transfer to your nominated bank account. You will record your account details when you fill out the Casual employment agreement form when you first join Deakin.

What you are paid for

You are paid by the hour at a rate which includes:

  • teaching/preparation time and/or time spent marking
  • a loading in lieu of sick leave, recreation leave and public holidays

Superannuation

Casual staff must satisfy certain criteria before being eligible to receive superannuation benefits.
