Teaching and Learning

Deakin Studies Online (DSO) - A new model for 2011

Deakin Studies Online (DSO) is Deakin's virtual learning environment and is central to the Deakin learning experience where we aim to be a catalyst for positive change. Highly valued by Deakin's diverse range of students, DSO provides flexible access supporting undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

In 2011, Deakin will change one of the core components of the DSO, replacing Blackboard Vista with Desire2Learn and providing new features and functions to further enhance the student experience at Deakin. Deakin University will begin introducing the new DSO in Trimester 1, 2011.

Desire2Learn offered the best fit with existing excellent teaching and learning practice at Deakin, with our values and ways of operating.

As with any new virtual learning environment, there will be changes to how teacher, learners, and support staff will use DSO to access resources, submit assignments, record assignment marks and transfer final grades to the Callista student management system. There will also be more opportunity to improve the student experience with improved blended learning pedagogies.
