Mr Andrew Walters

Andrew joined Deakin in the role of Chief Financial Officer in 2006. He holds degrees in commerce and accounting and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Andrew spent eight years as an auditor at Price Waterhouse and left the profession to pursue a career in commerce. His experience in commerce has been predominantly in the mining industry where he was the Chief Financial Officer at diamond miner DeBeers in Botswana. In this role, Andrew had responsibility for a number of corporate citizenship ventures in addition to his core finance responsibilities and was responsible for representing Debswana in the 2001 US$19bn privatisation of DeBeers.

Andrew went on to take up the role of Group Finance Director as part of the turnaround team at a distressed publicly listed group and was successful in restoring profitability and investor confidence.

Andrew has had extensive experience operating on various boards of directors both in an executive and non-executive capacity, across a large range of businesses.

Andrew has responsibility for the financial operations of the University delivered primarily through the Financial and Business Services Division. In addition Andrew is responsible for Risk Management and the University's Insurance portfolio. He represents the University in its capacity as a shareholder in a number of associated entities.
