Performance review, evaluation and planning process

Deakin's annual planning cycle embeds continuous improvement at every level of the University's operations. An integral part of the planning cycle is the performance review, evaluation and planning (PREP) process. PREP is essentially an organisational version of the individual performance, planning and review procedure. The University, Faculties, Institutes and Other Areas all produce PREP reports.

PREP reports focus on:

  • reviewing performance against Operational Plan targets and other core indicators of performance (the 'performance review' component of PREP)
  • evaluating outcomes and identifying areas for improvement (the 'evaluation' component of PREP)
  • planning for improvement that will be incorporated into the next planning period to advance the strategic and operational goals of the University (the 'planning' component)

The PREP reports from Faculties, Institutes and Other Areas inform the development of a PREP report for the University as a whole. Through this process, Deakin determines whether its strategic planning is, in fact, advancing its mission; it identifies areas of strong performance and other areas where action must be taken to address aspects of weaker performance.

Each July a comprehensive mid-year review of progress towards achieving Operational Plan targets is also completed. This informs the development of the University, Faculty, Institute and Other Area Operational Plans for the next year.
