William Confalonieri

William Confalonieri commenced as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Deakin University In January 2012. As CIO, William is responsible for Deakin eSolutions incorporating Deakin’s Information Technology and Services Division and the University’s Web Services Team. 

William is a Certified Electronics Technician with specialisation in the design of computers. He holds a Diploma of Systems Engineering from the National University of the Centre of Province of Buenos Aires (1987), a Master of Computer Science from Lujan University (1991) and a Master of Economics & Business Administration from the Higher School of Economics & Business Administration, Buenos Aires (1998).  He has a Post-Degree in Negotiation from Belgrano University (2004) and he is a Certified Enterprise Architect from Carnegie Mellon University (2008).

William has a blend of public and private sector experience, strong technical and commercial skills, experience in managing large dispersed teams, and a track record of large scale IT transformations.

William previously held positions with technology companies in the United States and Argentina with responsibility for project management, software engineering and computer science research. In 1997 he was appointed Chief Technology Officer for Galicia Bank, Argentina’s largest private bank. Since migrating to Australia from Argentina in 2004, William has worked in strategic information technology roles with the Department of Sustainability & Environment and the Australian Red Cross Blood Service.

William has a passion for emerging technologies and believes that information technology will change Deakin significantly over the next few years, with digital perspectives being the enablers and facilitators of that change.

William is also currently Vice-President at McKinnon Secondary College and a Director of Callista Software Services.
