Kean Selway was appointed to the position of Vice-President (Enterprise) for Deakin University in August, 2011. He has been a member of the University's Executive since 2002.
Kean has strategic and leadership responsibility for the services, resources and facilities Deakin provides for its students, staff and communities it serves. His portfolio includes:
Kean is currently Chair of the Advisory Board for the Australian Masters Games, and he is a member of the Board and Executive Board of the Committee for Geelong. He also serves as Chair of the Board of Callista Software Services and the Bowater Trust.
Kean joined Deakin in 2001 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer of DeakinPrime – the University’s corporate education arm – in 2002, a position he held until 2010. During this period, he also led a number of areas of the University’s operations through roles such as Acting Vice-President (Administration) in 2005/06, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise) in 2008/09 and as Vice-President (Engagement) in 2010/11.
Prior to joining Deakin, Kean was Managing Director of the Synergy Management Group, a company he founded in 1995. During this time he built and led successful ventures in business consultancy, software development and contract management services. Kean’s early career was in the hospitality industry, working for national hotel groups in business development and general management roles.
Kean was educated at Eltham College, before completing a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at Monash University's David Syme Business School. He graduated in 1988 and was awarded the Nicholas Kiwi Prize. He completed a Graduate Diploma of Management at Victoria University in 1995 and became a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD) in 2003. He completed the Senior Executive Programme at the London Business School in 2007.
Kean is married with three children and lives in Ocean Grove, Victoria.
