Facilities for use - Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds

Deakin's Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds is located on the western edge of the historic port city of Geelong. The campus features expansive landscaped grounds and extensive sporting facilities. It is the second-largest campus of the University, with more than 4000 on-campus students. The campus has many services and facilities for use.

The campus has an ANZ bank ATM.

Campus bookshops provide just about everything you need for your studies: academic and general books, stationery, calculators, computer software and art and photographic materials. Go to the DUSA Bookshop for more information.

Campus shop
The campus shop provides a postal service, dry cleaning, groceries, papers and gifts and the campus bookshop provides academic and general books, stationery and computer software.

Chapel and lakehouse
Located on campus is the picturesque stone chapel and the Deakin lakehouse cafe and function centre, which can be hired out for many types of events. Find out more about the chapel and lakehouse.

Childcare centre
The Deakin and Community Child Care Centre (Geelong) is located in Building 36 at the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds. The Centre provides day care from 8.00 am - 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday, for children up to six years of age. Care is offered on a full time, part time or occasional care basis.

Dining facilities
The campus has a range of dining facilities including a food court with health and Asian foods, bar, licensed bistro and restaurant.

The campus has a hairdressing salon offering all the services you would expect, including cutting, colouring and styling.

Landscaped parklands
Set in parkland of mainly native trees, the campus is encircled by extensively landscaped gardens, lawns, lakes and avenues.

The Deakin University Library is open to all visitors. If you live near a campus of the University and need to access the Library and information resources you are welcome to visit the Library in person.

Management Centre
The Deakin Management Centre, located on a hill behind the campus, provides first-class facilities and accommodation for conferences and conventions.

Peter Thwaites Lecture Theatre (LT1)
The Peter Thwaites Lecture Theatre which provides seating for up to 280 in air conditioned comfort. The theatre also has dressing room facilities and a large foyer suitable for displays and smaller exhibitions.

Sport and recreation - KD Stewart Centre
The KD Stewart Centre, located on the Geelong campus was recently voted in the top 10 facilities around Australia in the 2005 Fitness Industry Awards and has a range of sport and recreational facilities including the Fitness Club complex, main hall, multi-function room, small meeting room, squash courts and billiard tables.

- Fitness Club complex
The Fitness Club complex has a weights room with modern pin-loaded weights, leg presses, dip and chin assist and incline and decline benches; a cardio room which has treadmills, spin bikes, elliptical edge walkers and concept rowing machines; and the stretch room which houses a free motion machine, fit balls, medicine balls and hand weights.
The facility has a number of VICFIT qualified fitness instructors who have extensive knowledge and competitive backgrounds in a range of sports at a State and/or National level. They have a broad knowledge of all the latest training techniques and the ability to set fitness programs and group activities for a range of abilities, fitness levels and goals. We can also provide:

  • Team building activities
  • Indoor and outdoor cross training
  • High intensity sport specific challenges

- Main Hall
The main hall consists of a stage and two multipurpose sports courts that can be used for a variety of activities. It is fully air-conditioned with data points, a fully equipped PA system and variable lighting.
The courts can be set up for:

  • Netball (2 standard & 1 competition sized court)
  • Basketball (2 courts)
  • Badminton (6 courts)
  • Volleyball (3 courts)
  • Table tennis
  • Indoor soccer
  • Indoor hockey
  • Indoor cricket

- Multi function room
The multifunction room is a large space with a kitchen and can be used for a variety of a group sport activities including aerobics, karate and yoga or can be transformed for lectures, meetings, trade displays, cocktail parties and luncheons for up to 150 guests.
It is fully air-conditioned with data points and network outlet and fully equipped PA system, variable lighting. We can also arrange overhead projector, whiteboard and screen, VCR/ DVD player, data projector, 35mm slide projectors, TVs , lecterns, microphones (hand and lapel) and portable PA at an additional cost.
- Small meeting room
The small meeting room holds up to 20 people for a meeting, or 30 for a class, or can be set up for group fitness classes such as yoga or meditation.
- Squash courts
There are two competition sized squash courts, one with a glass viewing area.
- Billiard tables
There are two competition sized pool tables. Billiard and eight ball sets are available for hire. 

External facilities
The Geelong campus is privileged to have an impressive range of outdoor sports facilities. There are four main ovals on the campus, two of which have pavilions with change rooms, showers, toilets and canteen facilities.
- Rugby/cricket field
The rugby/cricket field has a synthetic cricket wicket and rugby field and can also be set up as a soccer pitch. Floodlights are available for training purposes.
- Nicol Oval
Nicol Oval can be used for a number of disciplines including Australian Rules Football, Grid Iron, Rugby and Soccer and it also has an "A" Grade part flood lit Baseball diamond.
- Lakeside Oval
Lakeside Oval is set up primarily as a cricket field with a synthetic wicket and a second baseball diamond is also in place.
- Jarvis Oval
Jarvis Oval has a turf cricket wicket and soccer pitch. Floodlights are available for training purposes.
- Fitness track
A 4.5 km fitness track loops around the University. An external exercise station provides an opportunity to stretch or strengthen at the start and finish of your activity.
- Tennis courts
Four floodlit outdoor tennis/netball courts are located at the student residences. Tennis racquets, balls and light tokens are available for hire.
- Golf Driving Range
Fancy a hit of golf? The Golf Driving range has 10 bays to practise your swing. Balls and clubs are available for hire.
