Cybercrime impacts everyone: you, your family, and your business. So what can you do to protect yourself?
Join Damien Manuel, Director of Deakin’s Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CSRI) as he discusses the online threats we all face in our daily lives as we become more connected to and dependent on the digital world.
Damien will provide examples of scams and share his thoughts on the future of cybercrime. He will also show us what we can realistically do to stay safe online, while providing some career advice for anyone wanting to work in cyber security.
About the speaker
Damien Manuel's interest in security was sparked at the age of 11 when he was part of a hacker collective. He is now Director of Deakin's Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation, Chairman of the Australian Information Security Association, and sits on the board of the Oceania Cyber Security Centre and the Executive Advisory Governance Committee for The Computing Technology Industry Association board. Damien also mentors entrepreneurs through CyRise, Australia’s only cyber security start-up accelerator.
Damien has established information technology community resource centres to improve literacy and skills in impoverished and disadvantaged communities in Kenya, Laos, Uganda, and Cambodia. He also has a background in genetic engineering and is passionate about science. He has spoken on a number of podcasts, presented at conferences and appeared on radio and television.
