The ALLPlay Program: Creating an inclusive participation framework for children of abilities

Can sport be a vehicle for change? Join us on International Women’s Day as Dr Nicole Rinehart presents The ALLPlay Program and its vision for a culture of inclusion.

The ALLPlay Program aims to promote physical activity, wellbeing, and inclusive practices for all young Victorians, regardless of physical, psychological, or social disadvantage. The program will become accessible for any sporting organisations wanting to include children with disabilities.

In this seminar, Nicole will show you how the ALLPlay Program challenges the status quo; disrupts the current inequity to remove barriers to inclusion in play, sport, and dance; and how research informs a new pathway for every child.

The seminar will be followed by drinks and canapés, so you can reconnect with other Deakin Alumni. You are welcome to bring along one guest – please advise their name at the time of booking.

RSVPs are essential by Wednesday 1 March or until booked out.

About Nicole Rinehart

Nicole is the Director of the Deakin Child Centre and holds the Chair of Clinical Psychology at Deakin University. She is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, and Consultant Clinical Psychologist at the Melbourne Children’s Clinic.

Nicole specialises in children with neurodevelopmental conditions, for example autism, Asperger’s disorder and ADHD. She established the Deakin Child Study Centre in 2013 to create a new platform in the community for researchers and industry to come together and make a real difference in the lives of children who face developmental challenges. She
has recently established a National partnership with the AFL, Moose Toys, and the NDIA to conduct the ‘biggest game changer for children with disability’ in Australia in sports to date: the establishment of ALLPLAY.org.au

Together with her team, Nicole will make a contribution to the AFL Disability Action plan to ensure that all children with disability are ‘playing on an even’ ground.

Nicole has published over 120 papers and book chapters on the topic of developmental disorders and is the recipient of many prestigious national grants and awards. Most recently she has edited a new book called ‘Developmental Disorders of the Brain’. She has also published a series of world-first studies in establishing developmental profiles and needs of children with disability. She has translated this work into clinical practice via the many clinical training seminars she has participated in around the world, including Malaysia, India, Scotland, and the USA.
