Deakin named among world's top 300 universities again

Deakin has this year entered the THE’s 251 – 300 band, a jump from the 301 – 350 band in the 2015 rankings, placing Deakin at equal 11th out of 35 ranked institutions in Australia.

The THE rankings, released today, are the second to place Deakin in the world’s top 300 in as many months, after the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in August also listed Deakin amongst the top 300 universities.

Now in its 13th year, the THE survey ranks 980 universities from 79 countries based on five key outcomes – International Outlook, Citations, Research, Teaching, and Industry Income.

Acting Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Beverley Oliver said the rise in the rankings reflected the university’s commitment to creating an environment that encourages and enables cutting-edge research and academic excellence.

“This is very welcome news and an outstanding result for a young university like Deakin,” Professor Oliver said.

“To be ranked in the top 300 universities in the world is a major achievement and says much about the strength and dedication of our world-class academics, researchers, and professional staff.

“It is particularly pleasing to see that Deakin’s performance was highest in the International Outlook criteria, with the university ranked 151. This shows that our worldly outlook is paying dividends."
