Deakin reaffirms status among the world's best young universities

The 2020 THE Young University Rankings acknowledge the world's best 200 universities aged 50 years or under, based on impact across teaching, international outlook, industry income, research and citations.

Established as Victoria's first regional university in 1974, the THE index reaffirms Deakin's status among the world's best young universities, and comes after yesterday's 2021 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings Top 50 Under 50 revealed Deakin had improved from 29th to 26th.

Deakin Vice-Chancellor Professor Iain Martin said the University's agility and focus on innovation ensures all its staff serve the changing learning and career needs of its students and alumni while working closely with partners on mutually beneficial projects.

"While rankings are only one part of the picture, I am pleased that Deakin's leadership in teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook is being recognised on the global stage," Professor Martin said. "What we do matters to our students, our local communities, and Australia. Through our extensive community, industry and academic networks, what we do matters internationally.

"We have made extraordinary progress in our comparatively short life and remain focused on delivering real progress and sustainable solutions for the complex problems our society faces throughout 2020 and beyond."

Deakin has more than 60,000 students from around the world, studying across campuses in Melbourne, Geelong, Warrnambool and the Cloud.
