26 March 2020

Dear Deakin alumni and friends,

I would like to extend my best wishes to all of you in our Deakin community. The first few months of 2020 have already proven to be one of the most challenging periods in modern history. We are seeing large-scale disruption of sectors and communities across the world, which is testing us in ways we could not have foreseen just a few weeks ago.

Deakin is an adaptable and resilient organisation with strong connections with our communities and partners. However, even for Deakin, the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic are significant.

We all care deeply about our University and the positive impact it makes on the lives of so many. Our focus in the immediate future is to support our students as they, and our wider community, learn to navigate these uncertain challenges.

Deakin continues to put safety at the centre of all our activities. With the situation changing rapidly, I encourage members of the Deakin community to refer to our dedicated COVID-19 web page for the latest information. This resource includes details of our own responses, FAQs and links to the most relevant Australian and international authorities.

Best wishes and take care,

Iain

Vice-Chancellor
Deakin University
