Biography summary
Dr. Akif Kaynak received his BSc degree from the University of Manchester in UK, MSc degree from Rutgers State University of New Jersey, USA and PhD degree from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in Australia. After receiving his PhD in 1994, he was employed as a lecturer in the department of Engineering Sciences, Middle East Technical University (METU) then as a Research Fellow in Queensland University of Technology (QUT) before joining Deakin in 2001. His research interests are polymer coatings, functional textiles, polymer sensors and actuators and 3D printed soft robots. He has more than 120 publications, a book chapter, a book on conducting polymers and citations exceeding 2600 and an H index of 27. He is a regular reviewer for various international journals and part of the advisory board of Sensors journal. He guest edited issues on stimuli responsive polymers in Materials and finite element methods in smart materials and systems in Polymers, MDPI. He was a recipient of 1.5 million dollar industry grant from Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) and a co-inventor in a patent on conducting polymer coated wool.
Dr Kaynak has 30 years of international teaching experience in Australia, Turkey and USA. Subjects he has taught include physics, statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, fibre science and materials science. He currently teaches stress and failure analysis and structural design subjects. Dr.Kaynak is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering.
