Biography
Alex Newman is the Head of the Department of Management and Professor of Management of Deakin Business School. From 2016 to 2021 he was the Associate Dean International for the Faculty of Business and Law. Prior to joining Deakin, Alex worked at Monash University. He has also worked in both China and Japan, and previously taught at Nottingham University Business School in Ningbo China. Alex is also director of the Centre for Refugee Employment, Advocacy, Training and Education (CREATE) which assists people from a refugee background to access education and obtain employment that is commensurate with their skills and experience.
He conducts research in the areas of organizational behaviour, leadership and entrepreneurship. His research has been published in leading international journals such as the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Applied Psychology, the Leadership Quarterly, Human Resource Management and Entrepreneurship, Theory and Practice.
In 2014, Alex was awarded the Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence as an Early Career Researcher at Monash University and the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management's (ANZMAC) Early Career Researcher Award. He is currently a section editor for Leadership and Ethics (Quantitative) at the Journal of Business Ethics and is a consulting editor for the International Small Business Journal.
