Biography

Ali Zolfagharian is an Alfred Deakin Medalist for Best Doctoral Thesis and Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Fellowship Awardee, at Deakin University, Australia. He is a Mechanical Engineering lecturer in the School of Engineering, Deakin University, Australia. Dr. Zolfagharian is one of the foremost researchers in Australia in the 3D/4D printing of soft robots and soft actuators. He has thus far received $206k funding from 3DEC (Deakin Digital Design and Engineering Centre), IISRI (Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation), and an industrial firm. His recent research outputs in the field of 3D and 4D printing include 50 articles, the guest editing of special issues, and three edited books.

Ali has teaching experience in a wide range of engineering subjects at undergraduate and graduate levels in a multi-disciplinary environment. He is involved in teaching engineering subjects in the Mechanical and Mechatronics courses at the School of Engineering, Deakin University. Ali believes in encouraging students to participate in interdisciplinary research in a project-based teaching and learning environment.
