Projects
The goal of Obesity and Population Health is to build the evidence base for public health policy regarding the prevention of obesity and its consequent diseases. How do we best measure risk, deliver interventions and optimise intervention effectiveness and equitability? Our key areas of expertise are in obesity and related factors with four primary programs: their monitoring and measurement, their role in healthy ageing, evaluation of population interventions for their prevention (with a novel focus on the business case for prevention), and increasing the equity of related population prevention.
The major skills used are epidemiology, biostatistics, chronic disease modelling, systematic reviews and policy research. We work with a range of stakeholders, including the Victorian Department of Health, VicHealth, YMCA, Obesity Policy Coalition, and Alfred Health, to facilitate uptake of our research findings into policy and practice.
