Biography

Dr Antonina Mikocka-Walus is Professor of Health Psychology in the School of Psychology and the former Faculty of Health HDR Director. She is a psychologist with expertise in clinical health psychology, behavioural medicine and psychosomatic medicine. Her particular expertise is in psychogastroenterology. She graduated in psychology from the University of Warsaw, international political and economic relations from Warsaw School of Economics and Sciences Politiques de Paris, and medicine from the University of Adelaide. After completing her doctorate, she held a postdoctoral position in epidemiology and neuropsychology at Monash University. She later held senior roles at the University of South Australia and the University of York in the UK. She started her appointment at Deakin University in October 2016.

Antonina specialises in trials of psychological and psychiatric interventions to modify disease activity in chronic gastrointestinal conditions, women's health and cancer. She also conducts observational studies and systematic reviews on the relationship between anxiety, depression and disease activity in a variety of chronic diseases.

Antonina's field-weighted citation index (FWCI) in psychogastroenterology is 2.24, placing her in the 98th percentile worldwide. Her FWCIs in women’s health and cancer are 2.2.

Antonina is among the top 2% most cited researchers worldwide.
