Biography

Dr Aron Hill is an Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Cognitive Neuroscience Unit, School of Psychology, Deakin University. Aron’s research uses a combination of brain stimulation and electroencephalography (EEG) to understand neural mechanisms underlying brain plasticity and cognition. His research further uses non-invasive neuromodulation techniques (e.g., TMS, tDCS, tACS) to explore the effects of altering activity across cognitively salient brain networks. Aron received his PhD in neuroscience from Monash University in 2018 and has since undertaken postdoctoral training at the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre in Melbourne, and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Canada.

Projects

Characterising the Neural Mechanisms Driving Cognitive Dysfunction in Autism Spectrum Disorder: The Role of Prefrontal Excitation/Inhibition Imbalance
There is growing evidence supporting an imbalance between excitatory (E) and inhibitory (I) brain circuits in autism. Further, this imbalance is likely to underlie neurocognitive deficits observed in this disorder. This project, funded by an Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (2020-2022), will use non-invasive brain stimulation and electrophysiology to elucidate key E/I markers in the prefrontal cortex of autistic individuals and neurotypical controls.
