Biography summary
Dr. Cecilia De Marinis is Lecturer in Architecture at the School of Architecture and Built Environment, Deakin University. She studied and practiced Architecture in Italy and Spain.
She holds a PhD degree in Sustainable Urban Design from the University of Roma Tre (Italy), where she also worked as a Teaching Assistant and Researcher (2011-2015) collaborating on a number of European, national and institutional funded research projects. Her design studios and research collaborations focused on regeneration of post-industrial areas from multiple perspectives such as accessibility, sustainability, and liveability.
From 2015 to 2018 she worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at RMIT University collaborating on two interdisciplinary research projects focused on Practice-based Design Research (European funded project DAP_r, Design and Architecture Practice research; Commonwealth-funded project ADAPT-r, Architecture, Design, and Art Practice Training).
Her research focuses on Urban Regeneration with a particular interest in the interplay between Density and Intensity and the interaction between people and their built environment. She has taught and conducted research in the areas of Regeneration of Post-industrial Areas, Urban Density and Intensity, Inclusive Urban Design, Housing Rehabilitation, Design Research Methodology, Collaborative Knowledge Production, Practice-based Design Pedagogy.
She has delivered lectures and workshops at different institutions including RMIT University, RMIT Europe, Monash University, Bond University, Roma Tre University, University of Westminster, Estonian Academy of Arts, Glasgow School of Art, KU Leuven.
