Research interests

My research interests revolve around the measurement, analysis and prediction of performance in sport.

The development of technology and computing power provides opportunity to advance our current understanding of performance in many sports, finding meaningful patterns in large datasets. The large amounts of data collected in elite sport provide this opportunity. The adoption of data science within the context of sport has yielded numerous valuable insights, identifying trends and patterns. One of the most useful applications of data science is the creation of models that explain the relationships between the characteristics of performance and the outcome of performance (e.g. win/loss or score margin). Models can be used to classify previous performance or predict future performance, which can provide an evidence-base to support coaches decision making. This can help to alleviate some of the burden placed on key decision-makers (i.e. coaches, recruiters).
