He is also recipient of eight awards for research and teaching excellence.
Imriyas is an internationally recognised leader in construction research. He has expertise in the development and applications of decision support / expert systems, data mining and analytics, machine learning and virtual reality in construction management. In recent years, he has been investigating research themes such as developing digital solutions for improving workplace health and safety in construction, psychological wellbeing in the construction industry, construction economics and digital approaches to construction education. With this research program, he has so far authored five scholarly books and several research articles in reputable international outlets, and developed several ICT system prototypes, including a working mobile app, namely: Fall PtD, which is available in Appstore for free download.
Imriyas is an excellent educator and his teaching interests predominantly lie in Construction Informatics, including building information modelling and Construction Economics. In addition to developing and delivering specific course units with the use of advanced digital technologies, he has extensive experiences in developing academic programs and course curriculums for construction management and economics education.
Imriyas is also the Editor of the International Journal, Construction Economics and Building, which is a rising journal in the field of construction management and economics. The journal is currently placed in the second quartile in the SCIMAGO journal ranking. Please visit the journal website for further details: https://epress.lib.uts.edu.au/journals/index.php/AJCEB
Prior to joining Deakin University, Imriyas worked at UNSW Australia for over 12 years where he was successful in obtaining a large research grant (around $600k) and several internal competitive grants (totalling around $130k). He also supervised 4PhDs and 2 MRes to completion. Imriyas also was the Head of Construction Management and Property Discipline at UNSW, managing three degrees programs. Recognising his superior performance, he was awarded with two Research Excellence and two Teaching Excellence Awards at UNSW.
Imriyas has worked as a construction cost consultant apart from being an academic, including working for the World Bank Sri Lanka office. He has rich experiences and knowledge of working in academia and industry in different countries. This enables him to bridge theory with industry practice and provide authentic learning experiences to students and to produce practice-impacting research outputs.
