Biography

Dr Livingstone is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and Senior Research Fellow in the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition (IPAN) at Deakin University. She is a Domain Coordinator for IPAN's Food, Nutrition and Health Research Domain.

Dr Livingstone leads a research program in dietary patterns, cardiometabolic health and personalised nutrition. She has expertise in nutritional epidemiology, behavioural nutrition, cell biology and web-based dietary interventions. She has over 3700 citations, a h-index of 33 and currently supervises 3 PhD students.

She completed her PhD in 2013 in the Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, University of Reading, UK. She was subsequently appointed as Research Associate in the Institute for Ageing and Health, Newcastle University, UK. Since joining Deakin University in May 2015, she has held an Endeavour Research Fellowship and an Alfred Deakin Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, has worked as a Lecturer in Population Nutrition and currnetly holds a 5-year NHMRC Investigator Grant.

Knowledge areas

Dr Livingstone's research interests include developing personalised nutrition approaches to understand dietary patterns, diet quality and dietary behaviours, their determinants and their link with obesity and cardiometabolic health. Her research program includes:

  • Designing personalised nutrition approaches, including digital interventions, to improve dietary patterns
  • Deriving diet quality indices and data-driven dietary patterns in population-based studies
  • Understanding associations between dietary patterns and cardiometabolic health, and how biological characteristics and the food environment impact on these associations
  • Identifying barriers and facilitators to improving diets and reducing dietary inequities

She leads research projects in collaboration with stakeholders, such as the Heart Foundation and the City of Greater Bendigo.
