Associate Professor Kevin OToole has a strong background in research and development related to sustainability, climate change and rural communities. Presently he is one of the theme leaders in a large CSIRO funded project involving seven Universities across Australia entitled the Barriers to the Uptake of Science in Coastal Zone Management. His most recent research has focused on six areas: catchment to regional scale indicators of sustainability; integrating environmental, social and economic measures at local level; community governance; demand management for domestic water; comparative land use analysis; and evaluation of allied health retention in rural areas. Associate Professor OToole plays a strong leadership role in research in close collaboration with local, national and international scholars. He recently received the Vice-chancellors award for Excellence in Research which was based upon his research in interdisciplinary projects that focus on sustainability.
