Biography
I completed a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) and taught in Victorian secondary schools for 14 years holding various subject association and school leadership roles. During that time I completed post-graduate studies in Sport Management at Deakin before leaving teaching in 2000 to start up a learn-to-swim business called Kings Swim Centres. The business succeeded and grew rapidly based on sound teaching and business principles to become one of the biggest learn-to-swim providers in the country teaching over 15,000 children per week across 10 sites. In 2011 we sold the business to YMCA Victoria and I agreed to stay on to head the Kingswim business. We continued to expand throughout Victoria, NSW, Canberra and SE Queensland teaching 28,000 children across 23 sites.
In 2018 I decided to leave the aquatic eduacation industry to pursue a 12-month management opportunity in the building development area at KIN Property. At the completion of this contract in 2019 I travelled through Europe for three months before accepting a teaching role at Deakin University in the Sport Management Department. I hope to bring a working knowledge of the sport and recreation industry to the teaching of sport management, bridging the gap between academic studies and comtemporary work practices.
