Biography

Dr Seyedin joined the Institute for Frontier Materials at Deakin University in May 2014 as an Associate Research Fellow and is currently holding an Alfred Deakin Post Doctoral Research Fellowship. His current research is on developing practical fibre spinning strategies of novel layered nanomaterials for applications in energy storage and conversion. He has been awarded with a PhD in Chemistry (2014) from the University of Wollongong for his work on establishing advanced fibre spinning techniques of novel organic electroactive nanocomposite materials. He has successfully built functional strain gauge textile prototypes by knitting novel conducting elastomeric fibres. He was a first-rank student in both BSc (2005) and MSc (2008) degrees. During his MSc, he established novel image analysis-based programmes for measuring pore size and fibre diameter distributions of electrospun nanofibres and used artificial neural networks and genetic algorithms for modelling and optimisation of the electrospinning process. He has been actively involved in teaching (lecturing and tutoring) at undergraduate and postgraduate levels for more than seven years. He was awarded with a University Postgraduate Award and an International Postgraduate Tuition Award to undertake his PhD and recently acquired the Alfred Deakin Post Doctoral Research Fellowship to pursue his works at Deakin University. He is the recipient of a number of awards and grants including Central Research Grants Scheme (2017), Impact Grant (2016), and the Ian Potter Foundation Travel Grant (2016) among several others (more than ten).
