Biography
Dr Shuang Ren is an associate professor in the Department of Management at Deakin Business School. Prior to working at Deakin, she was a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for Ethical Leadership, the University of Melbourne, where she managed research teams on projects related to leader emergence, ethical leadership and Chinese management.
Shuang completed her PhD in 2013 with a University of Melbourne scholarship, and was awarded the Williams Prize for Excellence in the Research Thesis, in 2014. She has held a visiting position at Foster School of Business, University of Washington, and Fisher College of Business, Ohio State University.
Shuang's research expertise is a social cognitive application in the leadership and sustainability domains. She also works in the strategic human resource management domain, with an international perspective. She has published in leading scholarly outlets, including Journal of Management, Human Relations, Journal of Organizational Behavior, MIT Sloan Management Review, Human Resource Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Human Resource Management Review, International Journal of Human Resource Management, and Personnel Review. She is the author of two research books related to leadership and leader development in China and Asia.
She is the Associate Editor of the British Journal of Management and Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology. She also serves on the editorial board of Journal of Vocational Behavior and European Management Journal. She guest edited the special issue on sustainability HRM in Human Resource Management.
Shuang is the recipient of ANZAM Early Career Research Award in 2015, Faculty Excellence Award in Research in 2017 and Academy of Management OB Best Paper Award in 2019. She has been involved in multiple externally funded projects. She was recently awarded 2021 P. Richard Jeanneret Grant for assessing and developing senior leaders.
