Biography
Dr Simona Scarparo is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting in the Department of Accounting in Deakin Business School. Formerly, Simona worked at Warwick Business School, in the UK. She holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Edinburgh in the UK, a Master in Public Sector Management and Accounting in the University of Bologna and a Bachelor degree in Economics and Commerce in University of Cagliari in Italy.
Within the broad areas of management accounting and public sector management and accounting, Simona’s research focuses on issues related to health care management and organisational change, specifically (a) the organisational implications of the interrelation between clinical and financial accountability; and (b) the organisational and individual implications of programmes and frameworks for improving, monitoring and assessing the effectiveness and quality of care provided by the NHS. These issues have been analysed through a qualitative research methodology within an interpretative sociological approach.
Moreover, she is interested in contemporary critical accounting issues, focusing on research in gender in the accounting professions, gender budgeting, accounting in popular culture and accounting and education.
Simona has presented papers in numerous international conferences and published in international peer-reviewed journals.
