Biography
Trent D. Brown is a senior lecturer of physical education at Deakin University, Burwood Campus, Melbourne, AUSTRALIA. His current role is as the School of Education Higher Degree Research Coordinator and as such engages with students and staff about graduate research.
His research interests are diverse but tend to sit more broadly in curriculum, pedagogy and assessment in both primary and secondary physical education. Trent’s recent research work is focussed on understanding how teachers engage with curriculum around the focus areas of health benefits of physical activity and lifelong physical activity. In addition to this, he is interested in understanding how children and youth learn and develop their knowledge of physical activity to use this in meaningful ways.
Trent joined Deakin in 2021 having previously worked at the ACHPER Victoria as the Professional Learning Manager (2019-2021) and as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at Monash University (2004-2018).
Dr Brown received his Bachelor of Applied Science (PE) degree from RMIT University in 1996. He subsequently worked as a specialist physical education and science teacher, before returning to RMIT to complete his PhD study examining PE teachers’ knowledge of health benefits of physical activity and its impact on their practices during school physical education. He was awarded a national fellowship in 2014 of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER) for his scholarly work and contributions to the profession on both a state and national level.

Teaching interests
My teaching interests focus on physical education curriculum, pedagogy and assessment.
I am a member of the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education (BHPE) teaching team where I unit chair and teach EEH103 - Foundations of Sport and Exercise Pedagogy and Practice. Additionally, I unit chair EEH304 - Senior Secondary Curriculum in Health and Physical Education.
I also work with final year students in EEH401 - Professional Issues in Health and Physical Education.
I am interested in supporting pre-service teachers develop their content and discipline knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and curriculum knowledge in the health and physical education curriculum areas. Given my research interests, I also support and challenge Deakin BHPE students to think critically about what and how primary and secondary students engage with knowledge and information about physical activity.
