Prior to joining Deakin, Wouter has been a visiting researcher at North-West University (South Africa), Stockholm University (Sweden), Deakin University (Australia), and VU Amsterdam (The Netherlands). His work has been published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Organizational Behavior, European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology, and Economic and Industrial Democracy, among others. In addition, Wouter serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for several academic journals such as Applied Psychology, Human Resource Management Journal, and International Journal of Human Resources Management. Wouter’s teaching experience includes courses on various HRM and OB-related topics such as Strategic Staffing, Human Resource Development, and Leadership. His teaching is informed by relevant project-based consultancies on performance management, talent assessment and leadership development in Europe, USA, China, Singapore, and the Middle East.

Biography summary

Dr. Wouter Vleugels holds a master in Work and Organizational Psychology from KU Leuven (Belgium). He received his PhD in Business Economics from KU Leuven in November 2018. His primary area of expertise is in person-environment (PE) fit, with a focus on the temporal nature of person-organization and person-job fit. In his PhD, Wouter has conducted a series of multilevel repeated measures studies on the causes and consequences of changes in people’s fit and misfit experiences at work. His current research interests include the difference between fit and misfit, the strategic importance of PE fit to organizations, and the management of fit and misfit in the workplace.
